Skip the difficult Photoshop tutorials and have fun creating a logo in Midjourney instead. We’ll cover the basics you need to know for designing a logo, plus the top Midourney tricks you need to know.
Step 1: Sign Up to Midjourney
There are plenty of AI image generators out there, but none that produce images quite as stunning as Midjourney. Its relatively low cost is another reason why we chose it for this project.
You can pick up a basic subscription plan that has everything you need for $10.
- Head to the Midjourney website and click Join the Beta. This will give you an invite link to Discord, the social platform where Midjourney is hosted.
- Select the Midjourney server from the list of icons on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click on one of the newcomer rooms titled #newbies, then type the command /subscribe in the text box. Hit enter twice on the keyboard.
- A dialog will appear in the chat with a link labeled Manage Account. Click on this link to view and purchase a plan.

Step 2: Create a Logo Prompt
You can start by typing the command /imagine prompt in the text box. Follow on with the phrase A logo design
Here’s how to use Midjourney to create a fantastic logo for your next project.
, replacing the description with your idea.
During Midjourney’s training, the AI model would have absorbed a vast amount of modern logos. That’s one reason why it can generate a design with very little input.
Here’s our first example:
It’s a lot easier to keep track of your work in a private chat than in the public forum. You can click on the
Midjourney Bot
name at any time and begin a private session by typing
hello
in the message box.
Getting Better Results
Let’s delve into the design some more and start improving our initial idea.
When creating a logo, there are some additional elements worth considering, color palette being one of them. You can find a list of essentials below:
- Symbol: Animals or objects can be eye-catching and memorable.
- Color: Black and white or color? If so, what color palette?
- Complexity: Simple is often best, but there’s no hard rule. You can have a rich and detailed logo too.
- Typography: You can have a logo that incorporates words.
With these things in mind, create a prompt that incorporates the details you want. This is what our first example looks like after we expanded the original prompt and added more keywords:
Adding Typography
You can also try out logo designs based around words, also known as typography.
To add text to your image, place the word in quote marks. For example, a logo design for a coffee shop with the words “White Cat Coffee” written underneath.
We have a more in-depth guide on how to create text in Midjourney that can help improve your results and avoid spelling mistakes.
Step 3: Use Style Variations
Time to speed up the design process using a neat shortcut. Say you want to try out several different color schemes, but copying and pasting the same prompt, then waiting for the results to load each time, is time-consuming.
In that case, make use of a feature called permutations. Place the different color options inside a set of curly brackets and Midjourney will create new prompt variations for each option. You can see this demonstrated in the following prompt:
A logo design for a small coffee shop, a white cat next to a cup of coffee, minimalist, {forest green, pastel, neon, earth tones} color palette
Midjourney will execute your prompt multiple times, changing just the keywords in the curly brackets each time. So, with just one prompt, you can create four variations.
This method works on all the different design elements, not just color.
Step 4: Upscale and Download Your Logo
After completing your experiments, you’ve hopefully found just the right logo to download.
First, select the image you want by clicking one of the buttons labeled U underneath the set of four images. The numbers correspond to the images in the set, starting with the top left and right (U1 and U2), then the bottom left and right images (U3 and U4).
The image will then appear isolated in the chat with a few more buttons underneath. Depending on the model you are using, either click Upscale Subtle or Upscale (4x).
When the image is ready, click on it to open a preview, then click Open in Browser. After that, right-click on the image and select Save Image As to download a copy to your computer.
Step 5: Remove the Image Background
There are several fast options for removing the background of an image if you need to.
We used the online tool called remove.bg to do this task. Without signing up for an account, you can remove the background of your logo and download the file at 500 x 500 px resolution.
Because we wanted a high-resolution version, however, we opted to create an account and use a free credit to download the image at 2048 x 2048 px.
You can also explore the option of converting your logo to a vector image, meaning you can resize it without causing it to blur, distort, or pixelated. The process is a little more involved but can be well worth the results. We have a guide on how to vectorize an image in Adobe Illustrator if you’re up for the challenge.
If you’re ready to stop here, then rest easy knowing that you have a great logo ready to go. Logos can be used on websites, newsletters, emails, merchandise, packaging, you name it. Add another creative element to your project with your custom-designed logo made in Midjourney.
